Worcester Man Faces Drug Charges After Stop Near Shrewsbury School

WORCESTER, MA — A Worcester man is facing charges after police seized drugs during a traffic stop in Shrewsbury.

Alcides Valentin is facing charges after a traffic stop near Oak Middle School in Shrewsbury led to the seizure of suspected oxycodone and cocaine, police said. He faces drug trafficking, possession with intent to distribute and several motor vehicle charges.

School Resource Officer Dillon Zona stopped a black Mercedes sedan on Maple Avenue around 2:29 p.m. on Thursday, according to the Shrewsbury Police Department.

Police said dispatchers received a report of the Mercedes driving erratically on Oak Street near the school. Detective Chysna and Officer Samuels assisted Zona during the stop.

Officers determined the vehicle's registration had been revoked and that it needed to be towed, police said. During an inventory of the vehicle, officers reported finding two scales, bundled cash, numerous blue pills and a bag containing a white powder.

The pills were identified as 21 grams of oxycodone and the powder was identified as 14 grams of cocaine, according to police. Officers also reported finding several bank cards that did not bear Valentin's name.

Valentin was charged with trafficking a Class B substance, possession with intent to distribute a Class B substance, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, a marked lanes violation and operating with a suspended or revoked registration.
