WORCESTER, MA - Worcester schools will remain closed until April 6, the district announced Friday evening.

Superintendent Maureen Binienda said the closure was being done to protect the larger school community.

Three people associated with Chandler Magnet and North High are being tested for COVID-19 after a possible exposure.

The state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education on Friday morning provided guidance to all districts on how to deal with the outbreak, but state officials did not order school districts to shut down. That decision is being left up to individual superintendents.

The guidance did order school districts to cancel gatherings of 250 or more people — in line with an order handed down by Gov. Charlie Baker on Friday.
