Dog Left In The Woods In Cage, Found By Logger
The dog was in the cage and on top of the cage sat a can of dog food, a bag of dog food and a leash. Police want to find the owner.
LEICESTER, MA—Police are looking for a person, or people, who left a dog in the woods of Leicester.
The dog was was left in a wooded area off of Moosehill Road where at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday a logger who was working int he area found the dog in a cage while clearing the woods. The dog had a collar with no tags on it and a leash. There was a bag and can of dog food on top of the cage when it was found, said police.
The logger brought the dog to an area closer to the road, using the leash to tie him outside the cage. Two young men from the area took the dog and the cage, which both had feces on them, to wash them. They also gave the dog food and water.
The dog, which has been identified as a Pit Bull, is estimated to be approximately 4-5 months old and is now under the care of the Leicester Animal Control Officer.
The dog did have what appeared to be numerous insect bites on it when it was found.
Leicester Police are currently investigating this incident as a potential case of animal abandonment and animal cruelty. The LPD will be consulting with MSPCA as part of the investigation, and if an owner is identified, the case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review to determine if criminal charges can be filed.
