There will be detours next week due to work on the Belmont Street bridge. Take note. Take a different route.

WORCESTER, MA — In an overnight operation held on the nights of April 5-7, the project team for the Belmont Street Bridge Rehabilitation will place the steel girders for the deck of the first half of the new bridge.
The section of I-290 below the bridge will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. the following morning. This closure will be in place on all three of the nights.
On the night of Tuesday, April 5, I-290 eastbound will be closed and detoured at Exit 16 – Central Street. A detour route, marked out by VMS boards, signage, and controlled by a police detail will run from MLK Boulevard, to Major Taylor Boulevard, and from there to Lincoln Street, returning motorists to I-290 at the Lincoln Street on-ramp.
On the nights of Wednesday, April 6, and Thursday, April 7, I-290 westbound will be closed and detoured at Exit 21 – Lincoln Street. Motorists will be directed to proceed on Lincoln Street, to Major Taylor Boulevard, to MLK Boulevard in order to reenter I-290 at the MLK Boulevard/East Central Street on-ramp.
Traffic will continue to flow over the open section of the Belmont Street Bridge throughout this operation.
All motorists should allow extra time for their trip and observe all traffic control signage and police details to ensure their own safety and that of project team members at work. All work is weather dependent. If snow impacts operations on any of the nights listed above, it will shift ahead by one day.
