AUBURN, MA — Drivers planning to use I-290, the Mass Pike and Route 12 this week should be aware of closures coming Thursday to make way for emergency bridge repair work. According to MassDOT, the emergency repairs will be made along the bridge deck where the Mass Pike crosses Route 12 just south of the Auburn Mall. Due to the work, the I-90 on-ramp from westbound I-290 will be closed from 9 p.m. Thursday until about 5 a.m. Friday. Drivers headed to the Mass Pike from Worcester will instead be detoured to Route 12 at exit 12B. Traffic trying to access I-90 from northbound Route 12 will be detoured to Route 20, then eastbound I-290 and back to the Mass Pike, according to MassDOT. Thursday's work could get delayed due to weather. Drivers will find detour signs in place before the closure begins, according to MassDOT.
