WORCESTER, MA — MassDOT conducted an emergency closure of I-190 in Worcester on Tuesday morning to remove an overhead sign that was blocking the roadway.

The shutdown was only planned for the southbound lanes just before exit 1 near the Gold Star Boulevard area. Traffic was set to be detoured to exit 2 at Frontage Road, according to MassDOT.

MassDOT said the closure would only last 15 minutes, and was set to begin at 8 a.m. It's possible the closure will have residual delays along the highway and on city streets beyond the closure window.

MassDOT officially reopened the highway at about 8:40 a.m. Tuesday.
