Ernest A. Johnson Tunnel In Worcester To Close For Construction
The tunnel will be closed for about four months beginning Wednesday.

WORCESTER, MA — The Ernest A. Johnson Tunnel will close starting Wednesday and will reopen in September, according to the city. The Department of Public Works and Parks will complete construction on the tunnel, including removal of tiles from the ceiling and walls as well as a comprehensive structural analysis of the tunnel itself.
The tunnel, which connects Salisbury Street and Main Street, will be closed to the public and traffic for about four months.
Public Works said it will "implement all necessary steps and precautions to minimize any inconvenience that may arise during construction."
During regular work hours from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., construction vehicles and equipment will be present in and around the tunnel entrances.
Residents are advised to call Worcester 311 to report any issues.
