WORCESTER, MA — At least 20 people were left homeless early Thursday morning after a fire in a Worcester home. One firefighter was also taken to the hospital for a minor injury, fire officials said.
The fire destroyed a triple-decker home at 51 Harlem St. in the Vernon Hill area. District Fire Chief Ed Thomas told NBC 10 that the residents were able to escape because of working fire alarms and smoke detectors in the building.
The fire was extinguished by around 3:30 a.m., the fire department reported.
