Flash Flood Warning For Worcester Area As Storm Fred Hits

As much as an inch of rain per-hour could fall Thursday morning, according to forecasts.

WORCESTER, MA — A flash flood warning is in effect for the Worcester area Thursday morning as the remnants of tropical depression Fred move through the area.

The weather system moving through the region this morning will bring thunderstorms, and could dump as much as 1-1/2 inches of rain per-hour, according to the National Weather Service. The warning extends from Southbridge as far east as Marlborough, according to the weather service.

"The expected rainfall rate is 1.5 inches in 1 hour. Excessive rains may cause urban and poor drainage flash flooding, especially in the city of Worcester, with sharp rises on creeks and streams," the weather serve said in the warning.

The flash flood warning is in effect until 12:15 p.m., but may be extended with rain expected throughout the day Thursday.
