Foundation Accepts Applications for Community Grants
The Greater Worcester Community Foundation is currently accepting applications for its 2017 Community Grants, through September 15.

From the Greater Worcester Community Foundation: The Greater Worcester Community Foundation is currently accepting applications for its 2017 Community Grants. Community Grants support programs by local nonprofit organizations that build healthy and vibrant communities throughout Central Massachusetts. Grants are awarded annually from endowments given to the Foundation for this purpose.
Areas of interest are:
Civic Life, the Arts and the Environment
● Increase access to cultural resources that reflect the diversity of the community.
● Inform and improve civic engagement and dialogue.
● Create meaningful opportunities for economically or socially marginalized people.
● Protect our region’s natural resources and make them accessible to all.
Early Childhood Development
● Increase quality and quantity of formal early education for low-income children.
● Provide a foundation for lifelong development rooted in behavioral and physical health.
● Support parents and families.
● Help eliminate summer learning loss among low-income children.
Youth Development and Education
● Support high school graduation and college or career readiness
● Work closely with public school systems and youth-serving organizations.
● Provide employment opportunities.
● Provide access to networks of caring adults.
● Teach conflict resolution, teamwork, persistence, and other 21st Century skills.
● Engage high-risk youth.
Economic Security
● Address the basic needs of those facing the greatest challenges.
● Prevent homelessness and increase access to affordable housing.
● Ensure access to wholesome food and healthy physical activity.
● Provide adult basic education, skills training, and English language instruction.
● Work in tandem with employers to meet the current demands of our local economy.
Healthy Communities
● Create a well-coordinated and culturally-responsive environment that encourages prevention of chronic disease, reduction of infant mortality, and access to care.
● Foster a community responsive to mental health needs of all.
● Prevent and reduce substance abuse.
● Support the goals, strategies and objectives of the Worcester Community Health Improvement Plan.
