Fund Seeks Donations To Buy Laptops For Worcester Students
The Worcester Educational Development Foundation wants to provide Chromebooks to students for remote learning during the pandemic.
WORCESTER, MA — With Worcester Public Schools students stuck at home due to the coronavirus pandemic, the district is trying to provide them with remote learning opportunities. But, not every student has access to the technology.
The Worcester Educational Development Foundation recently began a fundraiser to buy Chromebook laptops for students so they can learn remotely.
"Worcester Public Schools Superintendent Maureen Binienda has identified technology — particularly Chromebooks for students — as a primary area of need during the shift to remote learning during the global pandemic," WEDF said in a statement. "The district has been working hard to meet the needs of both students and teachers during this transition, and these devices will help to connect students to their teachers and classmates."

Gov. Charlie Baker last month cancelled school for the remainder of the year, with a target return date of next fall. But Worcester Public Schools has designed an entire remote-learning curriculum for each school in the city in the interim.
As of Tuesday, the WEDF had raised about $86,000 toward a $100,000 goal to buy Chromebooks. You can make a donation on the WEDF website.
