BLACKSTONE, MA — A Worcester County ice cream shop's defense of its young employees has drawn widespread attention online.

Coldstuff Ice Cream owners Dave and Kevin Miller posted on Facebook on Sunday, telling customers to stop yelling at employees after a worker was confronted over a 25-cent price discrepancy, according to WBZ-TV.

“They are children,” the business wrote in the Facebook post. “This job, for most of them is their first. They are going to make mistakes. They aren't in charge of anything.”

The ice cream shop opened in August at 97 Main St, Suite 4 in Blackstone, run by the same team behind New England-style barbecue restaurant Goodstuff Smokehouse, also in Blackstone.

The post said problems can be resolved with a smile and a polite attitude. It also urged customers to keep the situation in perspective because “it’s ice cream for crying out loud.”

The Millers told WBZ-TV that the incident involved a 16-year-old employee. The owners said their message was not intended as an attack on older customers but as a reminder that insulting young workers is unnecessary.

The post had received more than 278,000 reactions and had been shared more than 8,000 times as of Wednesday morning.
