'He Was Off His Meds': Son Charged In Mother's Murder
A son has been charged in the death of his mother in Worcester.

WORCESTER, MA — A man has been charged with murder after police found his mother dead in an apartment in Worcester this past weekend.
John Madulka, 26, was arraigned on Tuesday in Worcester County Court, according to reports. Madulka had reportedly been thinking about the killing before allegedly hitting his mother on the head with a metal staff 10 times and stabbing her, reports The Boston Informer.
Around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 30, police were called to a home on Bailey Street for a well-being check after being told that a 56-year-old resident may have been harmed. The caller also said that the person who may have harmed her left and was at the Dunkin' Donuts on Chandler Street.

Officers went to the home and there was no answer. Inside, they found the victim's body. It appeared the death was caused by direct trauma.
Officers found Madulka standing outside the Dukin' Donuts. He was identified as a close relative to the victim. He was placed under arrest and charged with aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and domestic assault and battery.

According to WHDH, during the arraignment a clinician said that Madulka had a mental illness but had been off his medications. He was held without bail, and sent to Bridgewater State Hospital for an evaluation.
