Hostile Crowd Forms Calling Police 'Pigs' As They Arrest Violent Suspect

Martinez kept screaming, "I ain't going back, someone record this so I can get paid."

WORCESTER, MA—Officers served a warrant to a high-risk offender that ended in a violent struggle on Saturday.

On May 27, around 9 p.m., the WPD Gang Unit and SWAT team headed to serve a warrant to a high-risk person in the Cutler Street area.

Officers were searching for Fendy Martinez, 26, Cutler Street, who had several outstanding warrants for crimes that included carrying a firearm without a license, use of a firearm in a felony, discharging a firearm within 500 ft of a dwelling, armed robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, and assault and battery on a police officer. Martinez is a known gang member and is known to carry firearms.

Officer spotted Martinez in a Toyota Solara on Dorchester Street and attempted to pull him over. He stopped in front of 86 Dorchester St, climbed out of the vehicle’s sun roof, and sprinted on Dorchester Street toward Providence Street, said police.

Officers chased him and were able to bring him to the ground. Martinez screamed that he was not going back to jail, squared up, and punched one of the officers as a violent struggle ensued. During the struggle, one of the officers used his Taser on Martinez, but it was ineffective.

Martinez kept screaming, “I ain’t going back, someone record this so I can get paid.” He refused commands to put his hands behind his back and was continually fighting the police. During the struggled he also ripped one of the officers’ shirts.

As Martinez was finally being placed in handcuffs, a large, hostile crowd had formed. Several people were calling the officers “pigs,” and saying that they did not know what they were doing, said police.

Police called for an ambulance to evaluate Martinez, who was transported to the hospital. At the hospital, officers searched Martinez and found multiple bags of cocaine, 2 cell phones, and approximately $250 in cash.

In addition to his warrants, Fendy Martinez is charged with Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Wanton Destruction of Property, and Possession of a Class B Substance with intent to Distribute.

He was arraigned in Worcester District Court on Tuesday May 30.
