ICYMI: Call to Artists to Paint Main Street Mural

Worcester's artist groups are looking to find artists to paint five murals in the city.

WORCESTER, MA — There are numerous talented artists in Worcester, some creating beneath the radar, others showcasing at local - and national - galleries.

The Public Art Working Group in conjunction with the City of Worcester's Cultural Development Division, the Worcester Cultural Coalition and the WCUW (Worcester's community radio station) want to tap into that talent, and have issued a call for artists to create five murals on five 14' x 14' panels on WCUW's building at 910 Main St.

The panels are located on the southwest side of the building at the corner of Main and Hawthorne Street. The proposals will be juried by: Art Professors Toby Sisson, Clark University; Catherine Wilcox-Titus, Worcester State College; and Tyler Vance, Assumption College.

Selections are based on quality, visual design and experience of place in relationship to the architectural and social surrounding and landscape. Artists are encouraged to submit work with strong color. However, pieces will not be judged solely on the basis of color. There is an $800.00 stipend per panel.

To participate, download the application from the city's website. Each artist or artist collaboration may submit up to two proposals and should include high-resolution images of prior work. All applications and materials must be received by April 1.
