Jogger Injured In Crash On Route 20: Worcester Police

An investigation continues into an accident that occurred near McDonald's on Greenwood Street.

WORCESTER, MA—An investigation continues as to how a jogger was struck and injured on Route 20 on Sunday.

Around noon on Sept. 3 police headed to a crash that involved a vehicle and pedestrian on Route 20, in front of the McDonald's at the intersection of Greenwood Street.

Officers found a 20-year-old male, who was from CT, suffering from neck, head and left side injuries, but conscious and alert. The driver, a 19-year old female from Sunderland, was operating a 2001 Buick Century. the pedestrian was treated and sent to the hospital, where he is in stable condition.

Investigators found that the pedestrian had been jogging with others and was waiting to cross Route 20. While waiting, the traffic signal for the east bound traffic turned green. One vehicle in the eastbound lane stopped to let the people cross, and the group went into the road while the light was green. The driver was driving eastbound and didn't see the group crossing, said investigators. Almost striking a female jogger, then the male was hit. He was able to walk to the side of the road on his own.

Numerous witnesses were interviewed.

This investigation is ongoing. At this time no citations have been issued.
