Key Player in the Movement Talks About 'Thinking Small'
A leader in the tiny house and living small movement comes to Clark to share his thoughts and experiences.
WORCESTER, MA—Derek “Deek” Diedricksen, author, builder and designer of tiny houses knows what it's truly like to live "itty bitt." Clark University hosts “Think Small,” a lecture by Diedricksen, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22, in the Higgins Lounge at Dana Commons.
A prototype of one of his tiny houses has been placed in the Alden Quad at Clark University, and will remain there until spring.
Diedricksen is a key player in a movement that challenges conventional assumptions about the American home and consumerism, said an announcement from Clark University. He is author of “Microshelters: 59 Creative Cabins, Tiny Houses, Tree Houses, and Other Small Structures,” an inspirational collection of sample tiny houses from around the United States and beyond.

During the talk, Diedricksen shares examples of his work and talks about how living small and “building outside of the box” can save money and time, especially by salvaging and recycling materials to reimagine the meaning and dimensions of home.
This free, public event is co-sponsored by the Higgins School of Humanities, the Graduate School of Geography, Sustainable Clark, and the Urban Development and Social Change Program. It is part of the Higgins School’s Fall 2016 series “Home (De)Constructed,” which explores what “home” truly means. For more information, or to tour the tiny house, call 508-793-7549.
