WORCESTER, MA — Your heating bills may have been a little lower than expected in November.

That's likely thanks to record-setting warmth seen across the region last month, when temperatures reached into the 70s — and near 80 in some spots — multiple times. According to the National Weather Service, Worcester, Boston and Hartford all set new weather records in November.

Worcester broke an all-time temperature record on Nov. 5 when the daytime high reached 73 degrees. That was part of a seven-day stretch of 60+ degree temperatures, with Nov. 5, 6 and 7 all above 70 degrees. The daily high temperature was 53 degrees on average for the whole month in Worcester. Add daytime lows, and the total monthly average was 45 degrees — the 4th warmest November on record.

Boston was even warmer. The city set a new record on Nov. 5 at 77 degrees, but the thermometer hit 76 on Nov. 6 and 7, and Nov. 12. The daily high temperature was 55.5 degrees on average for the entire month. With daytime lows included, the total monthly average was 49 degrees — the 7th warmest November in Boston on record. That's close to the No. 1 warmest November on record in 1975 when the monthly average was close to 52 degrees.

In December, temperatures will likely be seasonable, according to the weather service's Climate Prediction Center. The eight to 14-day outlook for Massachusetts show about a 50 percent chance of below-normal temperatures.
