Man Arrested for Allegedly Swinging Golf Club at 3 in Front of Worcester Grocery Store

A man was arrested for allegedly grabbing a golf club out of his trunk and assaulting three people with it.

WORCESTER, MA — A man is facing charges after an apparent display of road rage, getting out of his car and swinging a golf club at three people in a supermarket parking lot.

Around 10:26 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28, Worcester police responded to May Street, in front of the Big Y Supermarket for an assault with a dangerous weapon.

A man, 34, said he was crossing the entrance to the Big Y when he and another man and woman were nearly hit by a white Chevrolet leaving the parking lot. The men yelled at the driver to slower down, after which the driver stopped, opened his trunk and pulled out a golf club. He then assaulted the three with the club, but no one was struck during the incident.

Witnesses got the registration number and gave it to police.

On Thursday, Dec. 29, WPD detectives took over the investigation and given a possible suspect name. Detectives were told that Mustafa Muhammed-Ighile, 22, Upland Gardens, Worcester, was the possibly the operator and the assailant.

Muhammed-Ighile was eventually identified as the suspect by one of the victims.

On Friday, Dec. 30, detectives went out looking for Muhammed-Ighile, finding him around 8 p.m. pulling into the Upland Garden complex. He was in the passenger seat, and placed under arrest.

Muhammed-Ighile was charged with three counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (golf club).
