Man Charged After Overnight Vehicle Theft In Worcester
The incident happened on Homestead Avenue early Friday morning.
WORCESTER, MA — A man is facing charges after police accused him of stealing someone else's car overnight in Worcester.
Worcester police officers responded to reports of a motor vehicle theft shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Friday. The incident happened on Homestead Avenue.
The victim gave officers a description of the vehicle, and they located it in the area of Hammond Street and Main Street.

Officers pulled over the driver, later identified as 43-year-old Michael Lobo, on Silver Street. He was ordered out of the car and arrested, according to the Worcester Police Department.
Police said that video surveillance showed the driver breaking into the vehicle.

Lobo faces a number of charges, including felony breaking and entering of a vehicle, larceny of a motor vehicle, and use of a motor vehicle without authority.
The vehicle has since been returned to its owner, according to police.
Rise In Vehicle Thefts
This comes after police reported a high number of stolen vehicles in the fall of last year.

Worcester police reported that 29 vehicles were stolen in the city in November, up from 20 in October.
Police said 45 percent of the vehicles were victims of opportunity-based thefts, such as keys left inside or a vehicle left running.
It is unclear if any of those incidents were related.
