2 Accused Of Trafficking Fentanyl, Cocaine In Shrewsbury

A man and a woman were charged after police said they found illegal substances in the SUV they were driving.

SHREWSBURY, MA — Two people in Shrewsbury were charged with trafficking illegal substances on Wednesday, according to the Shrewsbury Police Department.

Sergio Hernandez, 43, of Auburn, and Alexandra Rivera, 44, of Worcester, were arrested after police said they found fentanyl and crack cocaine in the green Toyota SUV they were driving.

Shrewsbury police detective Chris Vieira saw the vehicle drive through a stop sign at the intersection of Route 9 and Lakeview Avenue, and pulled the vehicle over just before the Lake Quinsigamond Bridge.

During the stop, Detective Vieira believed there were drugs inside the vehicle and asked the two individuals, later identified as Hernandez and Rivera, to step outside the car.

Inside the SUV, police said they found over 18 grams of fentanyl, over 34 grams of crack cocaine and four separate cell phones. Officers also seized $888 from the defendant, as it was directly associated with drug distribution, according to police.

Hernandez was charged with trafficking more than 10 grams of fentanyl, trafficking a class B substance, more than 18 grams of crack cocaine, conspiracy to violate controlled substance laws, and a stop sign violation.

Rivera was also charged with trafficking more than 10 grams of fentanyl, trafficking a class B substance, more than 18 grams of crack cocaine, conspiracy to violate controlled substance laws, and a seat belt violation.
