Man Dies After Being Shot By Spencer Police

Police fired a single shot at the man after he pointed what they believed to be a gun at an officer.

SPENCER, MA–A man shot by police in Spencer Sunday night has died. Officers responded to a domestic complaint around 8 p.m. and attempted to pull over a car believed to be involved.

The driver initially did not stop but eventually pulled over on Northwest Road at the site of the domestic situation and got out of the car, said the DA. He then allegedly pointed what police believed to be a gun at an officer, who fired a single shot and hit the suspect.

Police believe the item thought to be a weapon was a "pellet pistol." Spencer PD tweeted out an image of the item next to an evidence marker. A replica gun was found near the operator.

The man was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

State Police detectives are investigating the fatal shooting, according to Early.
