MBTA 'Ski Train' To Start Wachusett Mountain Service
The special commuter rail train will bring skiers from the Boston area to a shuttle that links to the Westminster ski resort.

WESTMINSTER, MA — The MBTA is grooming a path to the closest ski resort to Boston.
Starting Dec. 12, a special commuter rail "ski train" will run between North Station and the Wachusett station in Fitchburg, where a special shuttle with carry skiers to nearby Mount Wachusett in Westminster. The trains will feature special racks to carry ski and snowboard equipment.
The MBTA will run an inbound and outbound ski train on Saturdays and Sundays through early March. But starting in January, there will also be a Wednesday ski train available. A typical ride between North Station and Wachusett takes about 100 minutes. Check schedules here.

"The ski train is a great example of using public transit to reach recreational destinations without the inconvenience of traffic and finding parking," MBTA General Manager Steve Poftak said in a news release.
The company Keolis Commuter Services operates the MBTA's commuter rail system.

Wachusett Mountain opened its 2022-23 ski season over the Thanksgiving week. With no significant snow yet this season, six of the mountain's 25 trails were open as of Nov. 30 with man-made snow.
