FRAMINGHAM, MA — Welcome to the Oct. 11 edition of Monday Manual, where we highlight important events coming up during the week (plus a local fact) in seven Patch communities between Framingham and Worcester.

This week we're starting in Framingham, which will be the third community touched by the Boston Marathon on Monday after Hopkinton and Ashland. The marathon route through Framingham is about 2-1/2 miles, and is mostly downhill from Winter Street with just 39 feet of elevation gain by the time you reach Natick.

1) Framingham, Worcester, Marlborough

For the three cities in the region with elections on Nov. 2, the last day to register to vote is Wednesday, Oct. 13. You can register online at the Secretary of the Commonwealth's website. Once registered, you can apply for an absentee ballot through Oct. 27 if you want to avoid going to the polls due to the pandemic.

2) Natick

Have you heard about this marathon happening Monday? Route 135 will be closed from around 7 a.m. to after 3 p.m. on Monday, according to Natick police. Plan accordingly because there are only two good ways to cross Route 135 once the race begins.

3) Wayland

Get your flu shot this week at a town-sponsored clinic on Wednesday. The drive-thru clinic will be held at the Wayland Village Plaza along Boston Post Road. Register in advance here.

4) Sudbury

Camp Sewataro's second scarecrow festival is coming up on Oct. 21. But residents can sign up for slots this week to create scarecrows at the camp. Participants will be eligible for prizes as residents vote for the best scarecrows.

5) Milford

Christmas is near. The Milford Fire Department will go before the Select Board on Tuesday for a permit to obstruct for the annual Santa Parade in December. It's one of the largest in Massachusetts.
