Monday Manual: Oktoberfest, Climate Forum, Vaccines After School
Look ahead to 7 things happening this week, including a Boston Marathon fundraiser and town financial summit.
MARLBOROUGH, MA — Welcome to the Sept. 20 edition of Monday Manual, where we highlight important events coming up during the week (plus a local fact) in seven Patch communities between Framingham and Worcester.
This week we're starting in Marlborough, which is bordered by Westborough, Northborough and Southborough — but no Eastborough. Why? Because the original Marlborough settlers came from a place to the east that already existed: Sudbury.
1) Marlborough
Marlborough Oktoberfest will be held all day on Saturday. The event is a collaboration between Marlborough's three craft breweries, Lost Shoe, Tackle Box and Flying Dreams. The fall festival hasn't been happened since 2019.

2) Natick
On Monday, the Natick School Committee will take a vote on whether to mandate coronavirus vaccines for any student participating in athletic or extracurricular activities. In August, the committee voted to allow the district to enter into negotiations with teacher and staff unions to mandate vaccines.
3) Framingham
On Friday, a special candidate forum focused on climate action and sustainability will be held featuring all City Council and mayoral candidates. Find out more about the forum, which will have in-person and virtual options.

4) Sudbury
Why not make it an Oktoberfest weekend? Longfellow's Wayside Inn in Sudbury will also hold an autumn beer festival on Friday featuring an array of German food, live music and, of course, plenty of lager.
5) Worcester
The City Council will hold a closed-door meeting on Monday to strategize about a lawsuit filed by the Worcester NAACP, Worcester Interfaith and other groups about School Committee seats. The lawsuit says the School Committee's at-large members don't represent diverse communities in Worcester and want district seats. The City Council has agreed to resolve the suit by changing how School Committee seats are elected.
6) Wayland
How does the town of Wayland make its money? That will be the focus of a town financial summit on Monday night. Town Administrator Louise Miller will talk to the public about the town's revenue, and what it will look like headed into 2022.
7) Milford
A fundraiser on Sunday at Milford's Goldfish Swim School will help a local dad running the Boston Marathon this year to support the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Nathaniel McMahan's daughter received life-saving treatment for kidney cancer at the Boston hospital.
