New Coronavirus Cluster At Worcester Senior Home: Officials

Eight people and two staff members at Blaire House have tested positive for coronavirus, officials reported Tuesday.

WORCESTER, MA — The coronavirus outbreak is continuing to hit Worcester's senior care facilities, with a new cluster reported on Tuesday at the Blaire House home along Houghton Street.

Worcester's total case count hit 868 on Tuesday, an increase of more than 150 cases compared to Monday. Eight residents and two staff members at Blaire House have tested positive, and another four residents are waiting on test results.

On Friday, city officials said that 46 residents and 10 staff members at the Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center had tested positive. On April 2, three residents died in an outbreak at the Jewish Healthcare Center nursing home.

In Worcester's homeless community, 24 people have tested positive and are in quarantine at Worcester Technical High School. A total of 168 homeless residents have been tested. Officials also said that 35 people working in temporary homeless shelters have all tested negative for the virus.

Elsewhere in the city, there are now 200 people being treated for coronavirus at Saint Vincent and UMass Memorial hospitals. Thirty-three people have died of the virus at those two hospitals, and another 80 are in intensive care.

Six Worcester firefighters who tested positive for coronavirus have all recovered and returned to work. Of the five police officers who tested positive, four are still in quarantine, and another six are in quarantine due to exposure.

On Tuesday, state officials reported 113 more coronavirus deaths across Massachusetts, bringing the total to 957. A total of 28,163 state residents have tested positive over the course of the outbreak.
