Nurse At Harrington Hospital Allegedly Stabbed By Patient

A suspect has been apprehended for allegedly stabbing a nurse at the hospital's emergency department.

SOUTHBRIDGE, MA—A nurse is recovering after allegedly being stabbed by a patient in the emergency department of Harrington Hospital on Wednesday morning.

At approximately 10:15 a.m., an incident occurred in the Southbridge emergency department in which a Harrington employee was seriously injured by a patient wielding a knife who then fled the emergency room. The nurse was immediately treated in our ER, stabilized and airlifted to UMass by Life Flight, wrote a spokesperson for the hospital.

Conor O'Regan, 24, was arraigned on Thursday and faces assault charges.

Southbridge police responded quickly, apprehended the suspect off campus, and placed the suspect in custody.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with our employee and her family at this time," said the statement.

A dangerousness hearing is scheduled for O'Regan on Monday, July 3, in Dudley District Court.
