Ohio Man Dies After 3-Vehicle Pileup On Mass Pike
The Thursday morning collision caused a brief closure of the highway near the I-290 interchange.

AUBURN, MA — An Ohio man died Thursday morning after a three-car pileup along the Mass Pike in Auburn, according to state police.
The collision happened just before 7:30 a.m. Thursday in the eastbound lanes. According to state police, the unidentified 23-year-old from Ohio sideswiped another vehicle driven by a 60-year-old from Sturbridge, forcing that driver down an embankment. The Ohio man then rear-ended an SUV driven by a 41-year-old woman from Rhode Island.
The Ohio man died at UMass Memorial in Worcester after the collision. The Sturbridge man was taken to St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester for treatment, and the Rhode Island woman was not injured, police said.
The initial collision forced the closure of all eastbound lanes of the Mass Pike. Lanes of the highway reopened a short time after, but traffic was backed up as far as I-84 during the rescue and cleanup efforts.
State police said the exact cause of the collision was still under investigation Thursday afternoon.
