OUI Arrest After Serious Pedestrian Accident On Cambridge Street
A woman from Lynn allegedly threw two nips of whiskey under her car after hitting a man in the street.

WORCESTER, MA—A woman is facing drunk driving charges after a man was hit and seriously injured late Sunday afternoon.
Around 4:20 p.m. on Aug. 13 police were called to 121 Cambridge Street, where a 45-year-old Worcester man had been hit and was lying in the roadway. The victim was breathing, but appeared to have suffered serious injuries to his legs, arms and head. He was transported to the hospital.
Police say the the man had been walking west on Cambridge and paused at the curb and attempted to cross north when he was struck by a 2017 Subaru Outback, operated by Carmen Chavez, 41, Lynn. Chavez stopped momentarily and then proceeded into a parking lot. She got out and reportedly threw two nips of whiskey under her car.
An officer spoke to Chavez, whose eyes were bloodshot, glassy and watery. The officer smelled alcohol, and after denying it, Chavez then admitted to drinking "a little." She failed the field sobriety tests, said police.
She was placed under arrest for Operating Under the Influence Resulting in Serious Injury, Failure to Yield to Pedestrian in the Roadway and Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle. The incident was captured on the camera system of a local business. She was arraigned in Worcester District Court Monday.
