Person Of Interest In Murder Of Father Won't Go Willingly To Massachusetts

WORCESTER COUNTY, MA — A man who is labeled a person of interest in the murder of his father says he won't go willingly from New Jersey to Massachusetts. Glenn Armstrong is fighting his rendition to Massachusetts and remains in a New Jersey jail on $300,000 bail, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

Walter Armstrong, 83, was found dead Wednesday night in his home at 36 Summer St., Blackstone. An autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined that the elder Armstrong had been murdered.

His son, Glenn Armstrong, 48, of the same address, was sought as a person of interest in the case. He was arrested Thursday night in Mount Laurel, N.J. on a warrant out of Uxbridge District Court for failing to give a DNA sample. That charge stems from an earlier conviction.

At his arraignment in New Jersey, Mr. Armstrong told the court that he would not voluntarily return to Massachusetts, said authorities. His case was continued to Feb. 10 and his bail was set at $300,000.

The Worcester County District Attorney’s Office is preparing a governor's warrant requisition application. The District Attorney will apply to the Massachusetts governor to requisition a governor's warrant from the governor of New Jersey. Up to 90 days is permitted to have a governor's warrant served upon a defendant who is out of state.
