Pilot Program is Helping Worcester get Back to Work

Worcester based, MassHire Central Region Workforce Board has been selected as one of six partners nationwide for a pilot program to help people find jobs in high growth industries.

MassHire will receive over $550k in support to provide their accelerated learning and job placement programs free of charge to job seekers in Worcester. The commitment is part of a $6 million initiative called The Future of Work Grand Challenge which is partially funded by JPMorgan Chase and led by social impact organizations: XPRIZE, MIT Solve, New Profit and JFF.

“Future-focused workforce boards like Capital Workforce Partners are evolving their operations, strategies, and services to the changing world of work and the ever-shifting labor market brought on by COVID-19.” said Maria Flynn, president and CEO of JFF. “The Future of Work Grand Challenge is bringing together the best of emerging technology with the critical infrastructure of local workforce organizations to build a better career navigation and employment experience for workers in need of support.”

JPMorgan Chase says MassHire’s Central Region Workforce Board was chosen for its ability to work with local employers to develop local talent pipelines that lead to careers that provide family-sustaining wages.

With access to new technology, organizations like MassHire will be able to gather new data that will better align new employment approaches with employers’ unique needs in Worcester and Central Massachusetts.

“We know access to well-paying jobs is foundational to thriving communities, yet still out of reach for too many people,” said Abby Marquand, Vice President, Global Philanthropy, JPMorgan Chase & Co. “We’re proud to support MassHire in their mission to address the unique development needs of a changing workforce brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The five other organizations chosen as part of this pilot are Capital Workforce Partners in Connecticut, Hampton Roads Workforce Council in Virginia, San Diego Workforce Partnership, West Michigan Works and Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas.
