Rail Company To Launch Bus Between Worcester, Rhode Island
Before a rail route, the Boston Surface Railroad Company plans to launch an express bus serving Worcester.

WORCESTER, MA — A private company planning to operate train service between Worcester and Rhode Island will start out on wheels.
The Boston Surface Railroad Company on Monday announced that it will launch an express bus line serving Worcester, Woonsocket, and Providence beginning in mid-February 2020. The company will own five buses, and two will be stationed in Worcester.
Bus trips will cost between $8 and $14 one-way, and up to $26 round-trip. A comparable Worcester to Providence trip on a Greyhound bus can cost close to $40, by comparison.
The company was founded in 2012 with the goal of providing train service between Worcester and Providence — which it calls an "underserved" route. BSRC had planned to launch the rail line in 2019, according to the company website, but has pushed back the start date to the fourth quarter of 2020.
The company on Monday also released a proposed train schedule. Three trains would depart Worcester for Providence in the morning, with one departure in the evening.
