Roads Will Close In Worcester For Lt. Jason Menard's Funeral

WORCESTER, MA — Parking will be restricted and some main roads in Worcester will be closed for half the day Monday for the funeral of fallen firefighter Lt. Jason Menard, who died on Wednesday in a house fire. The funeral is expected to draw spectators from around the state and the nation.

The funeral service will be held at St. John's Catholic Church, 44 Temple St., near Washington Square. Following the service, Menard will be buried at St. John's Cemetery along Cambridge Street.

There will be no parking along Temple and Green streets between about 2 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday. Parking will also be restricted at Union Station from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Here's the route for each part of the service, according to the city of Worcester:

These streets will close at 7:30 a.m. until about 1:30 p.m.

  • Washington Square along with all roads leading into the square
  • Lower Grafton Street at the I-290 on and off ramps
  • Temple Street
  • Green Street and all roads leading into it: Ashe Street, Temple Street, Plymouth Street, Harrison Street, Winter Street, Goddard Street, Gold Street, Madison Street
  • Harding Street will only be open from Winter Street to Kelley Square
  • There will be intermittent traffic flow from approximately 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Francis J. McGrath Blvd. from Madison Street to Green Street.

There will also be traffic control along these streets between 10 and 11 a.m.

  • East Central Street
  • Major Taylor Blvd.
  • Front Street
  • Temple Street

For the burial, these streets will have traffic control from about 12:30 to 2 p.m. as the funeral procession moves across the city.
