Shrewsbury Street Loft Development Reemerges After 2 Years
Worcester signed off on the 28-unit mixed-use project in 2019. The developer is back with changes.

WORCESTER, MA — A nearly two-year-old plan to convert a former vacant factory along Shrewsbury Street into lofts is back on the table.
Walpole-based developer CMSS Development, LLC, received an approval from the Worcester Planning Board in July 2019 to build 28 loft-style units in the former General Screw building at 383 Shrewsbury St.
The developer is back in 2022 seeking permission to make a few minor changes to the original plans. The project will now include 23 one-bedroom and five two-bedroom units; the original plans called for 22 one-bedroom units and six two-bedrooms. The developer also wants to add a single new parking space to the plans, among other small changes.

The development would also include 3,400 square-feet of commercial space. That size has not changed since the original proposal in 2019, according to plans.
CMSS Development purchased the Shrewsbury Street building in 2016 for $300,000, according to the Worcester County Registry of Deeds.
