Southbridge Man Indicted After Bolting from Courthouse
A Southbridge man is facing charges for escaping from a penal institution, and having a gun. Police found him hiding in a closet.
WORCESTER COUNTY, MA— A Southbridge man, who allegedly bolted from Dudley District Court in May to avoid being taken into custody, has been indicted by a Worcester County Grand Jury, according to Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.
Thomas Bruno, 24, Everett Street, Southbridge, was charged with escape from a penal institution, possession of a large capacity firearm and possession of ammunition without an FID card. The indictment moves the case to Worcester Superior Court where Bruno will be arraigned on July 27.
On May 2, a prosecutor requested a detention hearing on drug charges Bruno was facing in Dudley, and Judge Robert J. Pelligrini ordered that the defendant be held pending the hearing. Before he could be taken into custody, Bruno allegedly ran from the courthouse and into nearby woods.
Southbridge Police arrested him eight days later after he was found in a closet of his girlfriend’s apartment with a gun in his possession.
