State Makes Lake Quinsigamond State Park Trail One-Way

A popular walking trail along Lake Quinsigamond is making a directional change to encourage social distancing.

WORCESTER, MA — The state Department of Conservation and Recreation is following the lead of some local grocery stores. DCR on Tuesday announced new one-way walking rules at several state parks to promote social distancing during coronavirus.

Starting Tuesday, walkers visiting Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester will find that the Lake Park trail, 283 Lake Ave., goes in only one direction. The Walden Pond loop trail also went one-way on Tuesday.

Under social distancing rules, people are supposed to stay at least 6 feet apart in public spaces. But having two-way pedestrian traffic can bring people into closer contact, especially along narrow pathways.

Some grocery stores in the U.S., including Stop & Shop, are implementing one-way shopping aisles as part of social distancing.
