Pilot Dies In Crash Near Sterling Airport
The crash happened just after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Sterling Airport north of Worcester.
STERLING, MA — A pilot died Wednesday afternoon when the plane he was flying in crashed shortly after takeoff near the Sterling Airport.
The pilot was identified on Thursday by the Worcester County District Attorney's Office as Steven Staudaher, 66. No one else was on board the plane, authorities said.
Staudaher, who was described as a veteran with 20 years flying experience, crashed in a swampy area near the end of the runway. The airport is location northeast of Clinton along Greenland Road near I-190.
Sterling police, the Federal Aviation Administration, and detectives from Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early's office were all investigating the cause of the crash.
