Teacher's Aide In Worcester Strangled to Death, Police Seek Suspect

Police are searching for the person responsible for killing Sandra Hehir.

WORCESTER, MA — A beloved teacher's aide who worked for the Worcester public school system was found strangled to death on Sunday, police announced.

Police responded on Sunday at 11:15 a.m. to 8 Congress St., where it was reported that a woman was not breathing. Paramedics and police arrived to find a deceased woman, Sandra Hehir of Worcester, 49, on the floor inside the apartment.

Another resident in the building had called police. An autopsy showed that Hehir had been strangled to death.

Superintendent Maureen Binienda told the Worcester Telegram and Gazette that Hehir "all her life was a very kind person. I really hope that people join together and try to find who did this." The Boston Globe reports that Hehir was a middle school instructional assistant.

The investigation is still active. Detectives are working to identify a suspect in this case.
