Teen Charged With Intent to Murder, Armed Assault in Shooting on Merrick Street
Shots were fired during a large fight last week on Merrick Street, hitting a house, a car and a person. On Friday, police made an arrest.
WORCESTER, MA — Police arrested a teen allegedly involved in a group fight shooting on Merrick Street in Worcester last week.
On Friday, Worcester Police Department's Gang Unit got a tip that Xavier Grajales, 19, Worcester, was in an apartment in Woonsocket, RI. Grajales is a suspect in a May 3 shooting on Merrick Street, where a large fight broke out, sending one to the hospital with gunshot wounds.
The Gang Unit, along with Woonsocket police, went to the apartment where Grajales was known to be, and was placed under arrest. A juvenile in the apartment also had a firearm, and was arrested.
Police responded on May 3 at 11:18 p.m. to reports of a large fight and shots fired near 66 Merrick St.
Witnesses told police that two vehicles left the scene after the shots rang out, and that up to 15 people had been fighting. A stray bullet hit a home nearby, but no injuries were reported at the scene. Around 11:44 p.m., police were informed that a man just called from a Vernon Street address for an ambulance because he had been shot. Officers found out that he had been shot in the lower extremity during the Merrick Street altercation. His wound was non-life threatening. Of the vehicles involved, one had several bullet holes in it.
On May 6, Grajales was arrested and charged with Assault by Means of a Firearm, Vandalism, Unlawfully Carrying a Firearm, Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Possession of Ammunition without an FID, Discharging a Firearm within 500’ of a Dwelling, Carrying a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony and 4 Counts of Armed Assault with Intent to Murder.
