'True Friend': Worcester Mourns Longtime Publisher, Advocate Paul Giorgio

WORCESTER, MA — The city is remembering a beloved member of its community.

Paul J. Giorgio, a longtime Worcester publisher, business owner and political advocate, has died. He was 75.

A lifelong Worcester resident, Giorgio graduated from Worcester North High School and attended Assumption College and Clark University.

“Paul’s commitment to Worcester reflected a level of service, leadership, and civic responsibility that goes unmatched,” his obituary reads. “Paul served in many capacities in his beloved Worcester.”

Giorgio had an accomplished career at the White House before returning to Worcester “with newfound experience he used to strengthen local institutions and foster economic and cultural growth,” according to his obituary.

Giorgio led Pagio Inc. and contributed to the Worcester Housing Authority. He served as chairman of the Worcester County Food Bank’s board and as a member of the Worcester Business Development Corporation’s board.

He also helped establish the Shrewsbury Street Merchants Association, according to his obituary.

He later created Pulse Magazine, a publication covering Worcester’s arts, dining and culture.

Mayor Joseph Petty paid tribute to Giorgio in a statement posted Sunday on X.

"Paul was a proud lifelong Worcester resident who dedicated so much of his life to our city and to the Democratic Party," Mayor Petty wrote in the statement. "Worcester has lost a true friend and a dedicated public servant, and I have lost someone whose friendship meant a great deal to me."

Friends and relatives are eing invited to a gathering on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation Street. A celebration of life service will also be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home.
