WORCESTER, MA — A major construction project will begin Monday in Worcester, partially cutting off access to a main east-west route.

A water line replacement project will kick off Monday around 7 a.m. along eastbound Highland Street in front of Doherty High School. During construction, the eastbound lanes of Highland Street will be closed between the Newton Square rotary and Park Avenue, according to city officials.

Construction work will take place weekdays between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., and could last several weeks.

City officials said detours will be in place, but did not name specific routes. Pleasant Street off the Newton Square rotary parallels the construction area on the southwest side of Newton Hill.
