Westborough Forms Fire Chief Search Committee
The search comes after Westborough Fire Chief Patrick Purcell announced plans to retire this summer.
WESTBOROUGH, MA — Westborough is forming a search committee as the town prepares to choose its next fire chief.
The town is seeking three residents and/or business representatives to serve on the Fire Chief Search Committee, preferably people with experience or familiarity with fire service operations, the town announced on Thursday.
Interested applicants should submit a letter of interest and a resume, or a summary of relevant experience, to achivallatti@westboroughma.gov, according to the town. Applications will be reviewed as they are received.

The search comes after Westborough Fire Chief Patrick Purcell announced plans to retire this summer. Purcell’s retirement will become effective Aug. 9.
Purcell joined the Westborough Fire Department in July 1999 as a firefighter/paramedic, having previously worked for Worcester EMS and the Oxford Fire Department. He was promoted from captain to chief in October 2015.

Purcell has also held a statewide leadership role. He was installed in May 2025 as the 103rd president of the Fire Chiefs Association of Massachusetts.
