What’s Open, Closed On MLK Jr. Day 2022 In Worcester

WORCESTER, MA — On Monday, residents and businesses will take a moment to honor the life and legacy of civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr.

As a federal holiday, MLK Day could also affect the hours of government offices, libraries, public transportation, garbage pickup and other services.

Many bank branches will be closed on MLK Day, including large chains like Chase, Bank of America and Wells Fargo. However, most retailers and restaurants will likely be open — although it's best to call ahead if you're unsure.

Before you head out, here’s a roundup of what’s open and what’s closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in our city:

  • Municipal Offices: Closed, but regular operations resume on Tuesday
  • Public Schools: Closed
  • Public Library: All branches closed on Sunday and Monday
  • Post Offices: Closed
  • State Courts: Closed
  • Transportation: Most WRTA buses will run on a Saturday schedule, except routes 29, 33, 42, and community shuttles, which will run on a normal schedule. MBTA commuter rail will run on a weekday schedule.
  • Trash/recycling: Monday pickup will be delayed one day
