What's Up With Kelley Square? MassDOT To Give Specifics

At a meeting Wednesday, MassDOT will explain what's going to happen in the coming months with Worcester's craziest intersection.

WORCESTER, MA — From a traffic perspective, Kelley Square probably can't get much worse. But state contractors will begin a project to fix the wild six-way intersection in the coming weeks, so you might want to know what to expect.

A Wednesday meeting in Kelley Square with MassDOT promises more specifics about upcoming traffic shifts.

"MassDOT and its general contractor for the project, J.H. Lynch, will discuss the project’s overall construction phasing, key project milestones which will have an impact on traffic patterns, what to expect with regard to project activities within the next several months, and tools which will be used to keep the public informed about ongoing work and major traffic shifts. A construction phasing fact sheet will be provided at the public meeting," MassDOT wrote in a recent blog post about tonight's meeting.

Planning for the Kelley Square overhaul began in 2018, and work is already underway, including tree and sign removal. Eventually, the middle of the intersection will get a peanut-shaped roundabout, new crosswalks and bike lanes, and much more.

The Wednesday MassDOT meeting starts at 6 p.m. at the Crompton Collective White Room, 138 Green St.
