Woman Drowns At Stiles Reservoir Near Spencer: DA

The 48-year-old drowned Sunday afternoon, the second such incident in recent days in the Worcester area.

SPENCER, MA — A 48-year-old woman drowned Sunday while swimming at the Stiles Reservoir near Spencer, according to the Worcester County District Attorney's Office.

Spencer police and firefighters responded to the reservoir near 4:30 p.m. Sunday and found bystanders performing CPR on the woman. She was taken to Saint Vincent Hospital and Worcester, and was pronounced dead at around 6 p.m.

The DA's office said the woman, whose identity was not immediately released, was swimming in the reservoir with her husband and friends. The drowning is under investigation.

This is the second drowning in the Worcester area in recent days.

On Wednesday, Anthony Kender, 32, drowned in Lake Quinsigamond while fishing, according to his family. Kender slipped and fell into the water while casting his line.
