Woman Shot By Boyfriend In Worcester Dies: Report

Megan McNeil was shot on Aug. 17 and had been hospitalized since the incident.

WORCESTER, MA — A second person has died after a double-shooting in Worcester last week that appears to have been an act of domestic violence.

Megan McNeil, 27, died this week after she was hospitalized following the shooting on Aug. 17, according to MassLive. Police say that her boyfriend shot her before turning the gun on himself. He died at the scene of the shooting.

According to an obituary, McNeil died on Aug. 21. She grew up in Grafton and was a graduate of Blackstone Valley Technical High School, and later became a nurse after graduating from Mt. Wachusett Community College.

"She was a caregiver to everyone she loved and her career as a Nurse created a path for her to share that gift with the patients she cared for every day," the obituary said. "Her passion and energy were a blessing to the dedicated nursing teams she worked alongside at St. Vincent Hospital and UMass Memorial Medical Center for the past several years."

McNeil's death comes amid a spike of gun violence in Worcester this summer. She was the third victim of gun homicide so far in August, and the second woman in 2020 to die by homicide since the stabbing death of Traci Swan in May.

MassLive identified McNeil's boyfriend as Trey Mahone. The shooting occurred at a home along Huntington Avenue.
