WORCESTER, MA — The total number of coronavirus cases in Worcester hit 398 on April 7, a rise of 26 new cases compared to Monday, city officials said.

The increase comes after a big jump in coronavirus cases statewide. Massachusetts had 15,202 total cases as of Tuesday afternoon, including 96 new deaths.

Between Worcester's two main hospitals, Saint Vincent and UMass Memorial, there are 112 people being treated for coronavirus, and another 33 people in intensive care. Nineteen people have died in those two hospitals, up two from Monday.

Worcester Medical Director Dr. Michael Hirsh reported Tuesday that he still forsees a "surge" of coronavirus cases coming to local hospitals. But the arrival date may not come until around April 19, about five days later than expected.

Here's a look at how coronavirus cases have grown in Worcester and Worcester County since the first case appeared in the city on March 14.
