Worcester Coronavirus Update: Case Count Jumps To 55

Massachusetts saw its biggest single-day increase in coronavirus cases, and so did Worcester.

WORCESTER, MA — The number of new coronavirus cases in Worcester jumped by 17 between Thursday and Friday, bringing the city's total to 55 — an increase of almost 45 percent.

In addition to Worcester's cases, city health officials have been tracking cases in surrounding towns. There are now 6 cases each in Shrewsbury and Grafton, 5 in Holden, and 1 in Leicester.

On Friday, state health officials announced an increase of 823 cases — a single day record — for a total of 3,240 cases across Massachusetts. Of that total, 219 were in Worcester County.

Thirty-five people have died in the state so far during the outbreak, including several people from Worcester County.
