WORCESTER, MA — Worcester has declared a parking ban ahead of a long-duration snowstorm set to begin very early on Friday morning

The ban goes into effect beginning at 12 a.m. Friday. The ban affects parking along major arteries and bus snow routes, and on the even sides of most side streets in the city. As usual, city parking garages will be open and free during the parking ban.

Residents who disobey the ban could be towed or ticketed. Parking enforcement officers will be out during the storm to enforce the ban, according to the City Manager's office.

"Motorists are urged to stay off the roads during the storm. If travel is necessary, plan for additional time to reach your destination, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, plows, and other snow equipment," Worcester said in a news release.

The snowstorm will drop higher amounts closer to the coast, but Worcester could still see about 6 inches, according to forecasts. A winter storm watch goes into effect Thursday night and will be in effect until late Friday.
