Worcester DPW Working To Repair Potholes Throughout City

The issue is also expected to be discussed in City Hall on Tuesday night.

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester's Department of Public Works is prioritizing pothole repairs throughout the city.

Crews in Worcester have been addressing potholes throughout the winter, but now are fully focused on this work. The city said the repairs come as weather conditions improve, snow melts, and pavement temperatures rise.

Through Apr. 1, the DPW will deploy between three and 10 pothole repair crews daily, depending on weather and staffing. After that, up to three crews each day will continue pothole repairs. The crews include a driver and a laborer, according to the city.

Crews work from established plow routes and can pull locations from the citywide pothole list. Potholes are chosen based on the aging report, so that older reports are addressed first. Plus, any pothole that poses an immediate safety risk due to its size or depth is prioritized right away.

The city said that the DPW's goal at this time is to identify and repair potholes as quickly as possible to protect drivers, reduce damage and keep the city's roads in good working condition.

Residents can report problems, such as potholes, by calling 311 or submitting a request through Worcester 311.

The issue is expected to be discussed in City Hall on Tuesday night. On the agenda for the City Council's Mar. 17 meeting is a request that the City Manager provide a report to the City Council on the number of 311 service requests over the past 30 days related to pothole repairs.

The report, requested by District 1 Councilor Tony Economou, should also include how many of those service requests have been addressed, how many are oustanding and how long it took to complete the work associated with each request, according to the agenda.
